Self-Care for Extremely Busy Women

Mar 5, 2019

I begin this episode with an essay from my book Surrendering to Joy. It’s called “Learning to Forgive My Difficult Mother”. In it I recount exactly that – perhaps one of the most profound learnings of my life. I have no doubt mom and I planned this well before we were born. Either way, I’m highly grateful.

If you have a difficult mother, you might find this helpful.

While we’re on the topic of Motherhood, I happened to find Dr. Sheryl Ziegler’s book, Mommy Burnout, because it literally jumped out at me from a library book shelf. I took it home and read it, convinced it would be of use to you, my listeners. My interview with Dr. Ziegler is really fascinating. Turns out we really CAN burnout on the most common activity in the world – raising children.

During our conversation, I learned:

  • 6 Hallmarks of ‘Mommy Burnout’
  • Why so many mothers have signed on to be martyrs
  • Interesting research on stay at home moms and their personal satisfaction
  • The first and next things to go in the ‘Mommy Burnout Spiral’
  • The pure necessity of Mother Friends
  • The ‘Social Media Mommy Trap’ – beware!
  • Some simple but effective, no cost solutions

If you’re raising young kids, or even if you’re just always up for more great info on destressing, take a listen. It’s a fascinating interview.
